USF licenses hair removal technology to STEM Genesis
July 1, 2016: Tampa Fl: STEM Genesis finalized an exclusive, world-wide license with the University of South Florida for a technology designed to cause hair loss and prevent future hair growth. The technology could revolutionize the hair removal industry by providing a simple, painless, and economical solution for permanent hair removal. The system works by creating a charge on the skin surface using a non-thermal ion stream. The goal is to create a device for permanent hair removal that can be used with hair color and any skin tone.
STEM Genesis joined the TBTF in March 2014. In November 2014, they won the First Annual Pitch Competition held at the USF CONNECT 2nd annual “Building Entrepreneurship Around Tampa” (B.E.A.T.) event. In 2015, they received critical funding under the USF Seed Capital Program. They utilized these funds, along with matching grant from the Florida High Tech Corridor to create and test the second generation prototype.
